Physical Activity in Paediatric Long QT Syndrome Patients

چکیده
BackgroundPhysical activity (PA) is important for cardiovascular health as well social and emotional well-being of children. Patients with long QT syndrome (LQTS) often face PA restrictions are prescribed beta-blockers disease management. The aim this study was to determine if levels were lower in patients LQTS compared healthy controls.MethodsParticipants from an inherited arrhythmia clinic completed the Physical Activity Questionnaire Children Adolescents (PAQ-C/A) exercise stress test. PAQ score (a general measure youth, unitless) endurance time controls.ResultsTwenty-three had test within a year having PAQ. No difference observed scores between control groups (LQTS: 2.3 ± 0.15 vs controls: 0.18; P = 0.78). There no effect age on (P > 0.05), whereas significantly decreased controls (eg, 11-12 17-20 years: 3.2 0.07 1.5 0.08, 0.005). Endurance heart rate at peak (11 0.5 15 minutes, < 0.0001; 169 5 198 2 beats per minute, 0.0001).ConclusionsDespite guideline recommendations restricting PA, risk sudden cardiac death, use beta-blockers, our cohort reported similar controls.

KCNE1 and KCNE2 variants in Patients with Long QT Syndrome
Introduction: Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a type of ventricular arrhythmia characterized by prolonged QT intervals on electrocardiogram or delay in ventricular repolarization and it can lead to syncope, seizure and sudden cardiac death. Here, KCNE1 and KCNE2 variants are studied among Iranian affected families with this syndrome. Materials and Methods: Fifty patients referring to Rajaei Cardiov...

Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a rare cardiac channelopathy associated with syncope and sudden death due to torsades de pointes and ventricular fibrillation. Syncope and sudden death are frequently associated with physical and emotional stress. Management of patients with LQTS consists of life-style modification, β-blockers, left cardiac sympathetic denervation (LCSD), and implantable cardioverter-...

I have read with great interest the case report entitled “Epicardially placed implantable cardioverter-defibrillator for a child with congenital long QT syndrome” by Sugiyama et al. in the latest issue of the journal [1]. The authors well presented a case of long QT syndrome managed using implantation of an epicardial shock electrode and dose titration of beta-blocker therapy. However, some imp...

Background. The interval from the R wave to the maximum amplitude of the T wave (RTm) contains the heart rate dependency of ventricular repolarization. Methods and Results. A computer algorithm was developed to quantify the RTm and preceding RR intervals for each of more than 50,000 beats on 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiographic (Holter) recordings to evaluate the dynamic relation between rep...
متن کاملSympathetic nerve activity in the congenital long-QT syndrome.
BACKGROUND Patients with congenital long-QT syndrome (LQTS) are susceptible to life-threatening arrhythmias. The sympathetic nervous system may have an important triggering role for cardiovascular events in LQTS. We therefore examined measurements of sympathetic neural traffic in patients with LQTS and matched control subjects. METHODS AND RESULTS Twelve patients with congenital LQTS and 12 h...
